Unfolding Womanhood: A Menstrual Health Awareness Movement

Unfolding Womanhood: A Menstrual Health Awareness Movement

On April 8th, 2024, Making The Difference successfully conducted a Women Hygiene Awareness Session under Project Lajja at Billabong International School, reaching over 100 girls and women with essential knowledge and support.

The session aimed to break the silence around puberty, menstruation, and personal hygiene—topics often surrounded by stigma and confusion. Through open, respectful conversation and age-appropriate education, the program created a safe space for the girls to learn and ask questions.

Key topics included:

  • Understanding Puberty: Physical changes like menstruation, acne, and growth spurts, along with emotional shifts such as mood swings and the need for independence.

  • Menstrual Hygiene: A comprehensive discussion on sanitary options including cloth pads, disposable pads, and menstrual cups, along with hygiene tips for each.

  • Sex Education Essentials: An informative overview of puberty-related attraction, STIs, the importance of HPV vaccination, and internet safety.

  • Grooming Awareness: Recognizing inappropriate behavior and knowing how to respond.

The session concluded by emphasizing the importance of normalizing conversations around menstruation and empowering young girls to take charge of their health, safety, and self-confidence.

Project Lajja continues to strive toward a society where menstruation is not a taboo, but a topic of understanding, dignity, and pride.
